President Bola Tinubu is presently engaged in confidential discussions with former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon (retd.), at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. The meeting, held behind closed doors, marks the first private encounter between the two leaders since President Tinubu assumed office nine months ago.
General Gowon arrived at the forecourt of the President’s office a little after 2 pm, where he was personally received by President Tinubu. The agenda of their discussion remains undisclosed, and it is unclear what specific matters are being deliberated upon during this meeting.
General Yakubu Gowon, who served as Nigeria’s Head of State from August 1966 to July 1975, currently holds a position in the Council of State. The significance and implications of this meeting between President Tinubu and the former Head of State are yet to be revealed. Additionally, on a related note, President Tinubu is scheduled to inaugurate the Geometric Power Plant in Abia on Monday.
