The Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, strongly condemned those advocating for a coup d’état in Nigeria, labeling them as enemies of the nation. He reassured the public that the military is committed to protecting democracy and has no intentions of seizing power. This statement comes amid concerns over economic challenges leading to protests and fears of military intervention, especially with recent coups in some West African countries.
Gen. Musa, speaking in Port Harcourt, warned against any attempts to subvert the democratic process, emphasizing that the Armed Forces are dedicated to supporting democracy. He urged patience from Nigerians, assuring them that government efforts would soon yield improvements in living conditions. The Chief of Defence Staff emphasized the importance of unity in defeating those working against the government and the nation’s progress.
Meanwhile, the Kaduna State Overseeing Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, disclosed that the mastermind of the August 2021 attack on the Nigerian Defence Academy was eliminated by troops on Wednesday. The notorious bandit, Boderi Isyaku, had long eluded security forces and was responsible for various deadly attacks, including the kidnapping of students and the attack on the Defence Academy. Troops intercepted and killed Isyaku during an operation, showcasing the military’s determination to tackle criminal elements disrupting peace in the region. Governor Uba Sani praised the troops for their bravery and professionalism in achieving this significant victory.
