Operatives affiliated with the Special Tactical Squad of the Nigeria Police Force in Abuja have been apprehended for unlawfully obtaining N30 million from a civilian, as confirmed by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, in a statement released on Friday.
The incident came to light through the X platform, prompting swift action by the NPF, leading to the arrest of the involved officers and their associates who had initially evaded capture during the onset of investigations.
The statement issued by ACP Adejobi conveyed, “Following a recent case of extortion by officers of the Nigeria Police attached to the Special Tactical Squad in Abuja, where a member of the public was extorted to the tune of N30.3 million, reported through the X platform, the Nigeria Police is pleased to announce significant progress in the apprehension of the officers and their accomplices responsible for this unprofessional behavior. The squad members, who initially fled as investigations commenced, have now been apprehended and are currently in custody.”
Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, demonstrating his commitment to maintaining the highest standards of integrity and accountability within the Nigeria Police Force, has ordered the initiation of disciplinary proceedings. This move aims to ensure that justice is promptly and decisively served in response to the misconduct.
The statement further emphasized the police force’s unwavering stance of zero-tolerance towards any form of misconduct or corruption within its ranks.
