Nigeria’s Super Falcons have successfully advanced to the final round of qualifiers for the women’s football event at the 2024 Olympics by defeating Cameroon 1-0 on aggregate in the third round of qualifiers.
In the first leg, the Falcons played to a goalless draw at the Stade de la Réunification in Douala. However, they secured a crucial 1-0 victory against Cameroon at the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja during the second leg on Monday. Esther Okoronkwo scored the decisive early goal in what proved to be a closely contested match.
Despite Cameroon’s efforts to equalize and potentially secure a win on the road, Nigeria’s goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie made critical stops to maintain the lead.
With this victory, the Super Falcons are now set to face either Tanzania or South Africa in the final round of qualifiers. Only two teams from Africa will qualify for the 2024 Olympics women’s football event.
The 2024 Olympics are scheduled to take place in Paris, France, from July 26 to August 11, 2024. The Super Falcons will aim to secure their place in the Olympics during the upcoming final round of qualifiers.
