A 29-year-old man, Joseph Yakubu, has been arrested by the Plateau State Police Command for allegedly killing his father, Yakubu Dalyop, using a pestle. The incident occurred in the Anglo-Jos community, Jos South Local Government Area of the state, following a disagreement between the father and the son.
According to the Commissioner of Police, Hassan Yabanet, the information was received by the Anglo-Jos division on February 20, 2024, from a concerned citizen. The report stated that on February 15, 2024, at around 8 pm, Joseph Yakubu had a minor misunderstanding with his father. In the heat of the argument, Joseph allegedly took a pestle and struck his father on the head, leading to the father’s loss of consciousness.
The victim was rushed to the Plateau State Specialist Hospital for medical attention but, unfortunately, passed away on February 19, 2024, around 1 pm while still receiving treatment. The suspect has been arrested, and the deceased’s body was deposited at the hospital mortuary.
The commissioner mentioned that the case is still under investigation, and upon its conclusion, the suspect will be charged to court.
In addition to this case, the commissioner discussed the state’s security situation, stating that a new operational template has been designed to flush out criminals across the state. The application of these new operational strategies, implemented within a few weeks, has resulted in positive outcomes, with several criminals being apprehended for various offenses such as criminal conspiracy, trespass, disturbance of public peace, kidnapping, and culpable homicide.
The commissioner assured the public of the police’s commitment to providing adequate protection for their lives and property, while also soliciting the people’s support and cooperation to achieve this objective.
