Nigeria’s military reported significant achievements in its efforts to combat terrorism and kidnapping in February. According to Major General Edward Buba, the Director of Defence Media Operations, a total of 974 terrorists were neutralized, and 621 suspected terrorists and kidnappers were arrested across the country during the month. Additionally, 466 kidnapped victims were successfully rescued, and various arms and ammunition were recovered.
Major General Buba briefed journalists in Abuja on the military’s activities, emphasizing the commitment to punishing unrepentant criminals with overwhelming military force. He urged terrorists to consider repentance and engage in peace talks.
This announcement comes in the wake of the Rivers State Police Command parading the remains of a cult kingpin known as 2Baba, who was allegedly involved in the murder of DPO Bako Angbashim.
In a previous report in January, Major General Buba highlighted the success of the air component of Operation Hadin Kai, which targeted and eliminated three top commanders of the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists in Borno State. The commanders, identified as Abou Maimuna, Abou Zahra, and Commander Saleh, along with their lieutenants in a canoe, were reportedly destroyed in air strikes.
The military’s continued efforts underscore its commitment to maintaining security and combating terrorism in various regions of Nigeria.
