Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has directed security agencies in the state to investigate and apprehend individuals responsible for the destruction of billboards belonging to certain governorship aspirants and the reported assault on members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) during President Bola Tinubu’s recent visit to the state.
President Tinubu visited the family of the late former Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, the Olowo of Owo, Oba Ajibade Ogunoye, in Owo, and the National leader of the pan-Yoruba socio-political organization Afenifere, Pa Reuben Fasoranti, in Akure on Wednesday.
Following the visit, both the Olusola Oke Campaign Organisation and the Wale Akinterinwa Campaign Organisation accused the governor’s supporters of vandalizing their posters and billboards. The governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Ebenezer Adeniyan, vehemently denied the governor’s involvement in the alleged attack and strongly condemned the act.
Adeniyan emphasized the governor’s commitment to maintaining peace in the state and declared that any political campaign disturbing the peace would face decisive action from law enforcement agencies. He clarified that no one associated with the governor or the state government was involved in the reported activities attributed to “political thugs” during the President’s visit to Owo and Akure.
The governor has urged law enforcement agencies to identify and prosecute anyone found engaged in violent activities. Additionally, he called on politicians and their followers to conduct issue-based campaigns, free from blackmail, spreading falsehoods, inciting the public, and intimidating opponents.
