President Bola Tinubu has instructed the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to expedite the immediate release and distribution of grains and palliatives to residents to alleviate the impact of economic hardships. The directive, conveyed through a letter from the Presidency via the National Emergency Management Authority to the FCT minister, was disclosed by the Minister of State for the FCT, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, during an emergency meeting with stakeholders and chairpersons of the six area councils in the FCT.
Mahmoud revealed that the letter, dated February 29, 2024, outlined the urgent need to implement the directive within the next two weeks. In response, a committee has been established to oversee the proper distribution of the palliatives.
Highlighting President Tinubu’s commitment to addressing the country’s challenges, Mahmoud stated, “Everybody knows how His Excellency, Mr President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has been going up and down to see how he will cushion the effect of the hardship in the country, especially the issue of food security.” She emphasized the significance of transparency in the distribution process and announced the formation of a committee comprising chairmen of area councils, FCT Emergency Management Agency, traditional rulers, security agencies, faith-based organizations, labor unions, Red Cross, women’s associations, persons with disabilities groups, youth associations, school principals, civil society organizations, and the media.
