Tragedy struck in the Araromi Imota area of Lagos State as an 80-year-old man, Isiyaka Ayinde, reportedly took his own life at the Watch Tower. According to a police source, a tenant in the compound discovered the lifeless body of Ayinde hanging from a rope in the kitchen.
The distressing incident unfolded when the deceased’s children raised an alarm, prompting the tenant to rush to the kitchen. There, he found Ayinde suspended by a rope tied to the burglary proof of a kitchen window. The police source shared this account, shedding light on the somber circumstances surrounding the elderly man’s suicide.
Confirming the incident, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, disclosed that, in accordance with the wishes of the deceased’s family, the body was not to be deposited at the mortuary. Instead, they opted for an immediate burial, citing Ayinde’s age and religious convictions as determining factors.
Hundeyin added, “The scene has been visited by the DCB personnel of the division, and photographs were taken. The family of the deceased is not interested in depositing the body at the mortuary but rather prefer burying the corpse immediately as a result of the age and religious inclination of the deceased.”
This unfortunate event follows a similar incident reported in January, where a 32-year-old female marketing employee of a bank in Ikorodu, Lagos State, identified as Amarachi Ugochukwu, took her own life by consuming an insecticide.
