The Kano State Hisbah Board has conducted its annual Ramadan enforcement operations, during which 11 Muslims were apprehended for violating the Ramadan fast by eating during the day. The arrests were made across the city, particularly near markets, where individuals were found consuming food in public.
According to Lawal Ibrahim, the board’s Public Relations Officer, the individuals arrested included 10 men and one woman. The woman was caught eating from her groundnut-selling stall, while the men were apprehended in various locations where they were seen consuming food during fasting hours.
Ibrahim clarified that non-Muslims are not targeted in these enforcement activities unless they are found selling food to Muslims during fasting hours. In such cases, non-Muslims could be considered in violation of the Ramadan fasting rules.
The purpose of these enforcement operations is to ensure compliance with Ramadan fasting obligations among Muslims in Kano State. The Hisbah Board plays a role in monitoring and enforcing adherence to religious practices during the holy month.
