The government of Niger State has allocated N976 million for Ramadan feeding initiatives across its eight emirate councils. In addition, a variety of grains have been procured for distribution to various entities, including all 25 local government areas, emirate councils, religious leaders, security agencies, and political parties within the state.
According to a statement by the Commissioner for Information, Binta Mamman, each local government is set to receive 7,079 bags of assorted grains. These allocations include 1,000 bags of 10kg rice, 184 bags of 25kg rice, 2,000 bags of 10 kg maize, 490 bags of 25kg maize, 1,200 bags of 10kg millet, as well as 1,200 bags of sorghum and 775 bags of beans.
Particularly, Bida, Kontagora, and Suleja LGAs are slated to receive 14,000 bags of assorted grains each, while Chanchaga LGA will receive the highest allocation of 21,000 bags. Furthermore, traditional and religious institutions, security agencies, the Niger State House of Assembly, the APC political party, internally displaced persons (IDPs), and organized labor will also benefit from this initiative.
Mamman emphasized that the total expenditure for Ramadan feeding across the eight emirate councils in the state is estimated at N976 million. She urged fairness and transparency in the distribution and coordination of the palliatives and Ramadan feeding by all responsible parties.
