In a significant breakthrough, the Rivers State Police Force succeeded in neutralizing the commander of a notorious cult group known as the ‘Greenlanders’ during a fierce exchange of gunfire in Owube Kingdom, situated in the Ahoada West Local Government Area of the state.
The cult leader, identified as Izuma David Odiereke, also known as ‘Solution,’ had been a fugitive for nearly a decade, evading capture by law enforcement authorities. His stronghold was a camp nestled in a forest within the area.
According to reports, when police operatives raided his camp around 4 am on Monday, Odiereke opened fire in a bid to escape but was ultimately overwhelmed by the superior firepower of the officers.
Addressing reporters at the Ahoada Area Command, the State Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu, described the deceased cult commander as a notorious serial killer. Disu revealed that Odiereke had been on the police’s most-wanted list since 2016, and his criminal activities had left his clan deserted.
Disu recounted, “His reign came to an end when the command dispatched officers to his camp at Api forest… Attempts were made to capture him three days ago, but he escaped. We continued to lay siege on him.”
The commissioner praised the relentless efforts of the police force in tracking down Odiereke, whose reign of terror had caused immense suffering in the region. He credited the Ahoada Area Command and Division for their unwavering commitment to combating crime and urged them to sustain their efforts.
The significance of Odiereke’s demise was echoed by the enthusiastic response of the local community, with residents expressing relief and gratitude towards the police force. Ben Ekes, Chairman of the Ahoada East LGA, emphasized the positive impact this development would have on reducing criminal activities in the area.
Similarly, Seji Ebenezer, the Paramount Ruler of Owube community, where the cult leader originated, expressed relief and satisfaction, stating, “The community is so excited… He is a serial killer, kidnapper, and notorious cultist.”
The successful operation marks a significant victory in the ongoing fight against criminality in Rivers State, underscoring the dedication and effectiveness of law enforcement efforts in curbing the activities of criminal elements.
