President Bola Tinubu has granted a six-month extension of service to Mr. Samuel Atang, the newly appointed Head of Service of the Federal Capital Territory Civil Service Commission. The extension, effective from Wednesday, March 27, 2024, coinciding with Atang’s 60th birthday, was communicated through a letter signed by Chidi Amadi, Chief of Staff to the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, on Wednesday.
In the missive addressed to the Head of Service, Amadi highlighted that the extension aims to provide Atang with an opportunity to streamline processes for the restructuring of the FCT Administration, following the establishment of the FCT-CSC. Atang, alongside Permanent Secretaries, Chairman, and Commissioners of the FCT Civil Service Commission, was sworn in on Monday, March 18, by the Chief Judge of the FCT High Court, Justice Husseini Baba-Yusuf, represented by Justice Sylvanus Oriji.
The letter emphasized, “I am directed to refer to the above subject matter and to inform you that His Excellency, the President and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, has graciously approved the extension of your service for a period of six months with effect from Wednesday, March 27, 2024 when you would have attained the mandatory age of 60 years. The extension of your service is premised on the need to stabilize and consolidate the ongoing processes to reposition the administrative structure of the FCT Administration occasioned by the recent inauguration of the FCT Civil Service Commission.”
