Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has pledged free education for the 137 schoolchildren recently freed from LEA Primary School and Government Secondary School. Speaking at the Government House in Kaduna before their return to Kuriga on Thursday, Governor Sani assured that both the school and the Kuriga community would undergo renovations, courtesy of the Uba Sani Foundation.
Acknowledging the trauma endured by the children during their captivity, Governor Sani disclosed that psychologists, doctors, and nurses provided counseling and therapy sessions to aid their mental well-being. He lamented the loss of one of the abducted teachers, Mallam Abubakar, who passed away due to medical complications while in captivity. In response, the state government vowed to sponsor the education of the deceased teacher’s children and offer financial support of N10 million to his family.
Expressing gratitude to the children for their resilience, Governor Sani assured them that all 137 would receive education under his sponsorship through the Uba Sani Foundation. He also emphasized plans for extensive renovations in Kuriga community and its schools, praising its peaceful nature.
Governor Sani concluded by honoring the memory of Mallam Abubakar and reaffirming the government’s commitment to support his family and educate his children.
Regarding the ransom, the Federal Government, represented by Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, confirmed on Monday that no ransom was paid for the release of the abducted pupils. The military, in collaboration with local authorities from Zamfara State, successfully rescued the pupils on Sunday, March 24, after they were abducted on March 7, 2024.
