The Kano State Police Command has apprehended a 25-year-old suspect, identified as Abba Ibrahim, for allegedly stabbing 22-year-old Zaharadeen Iliyasi to death. The incident was confirmed in a statement released on Monday by the command’s spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Kiyawa.
According to the statement, the altercation between the two friends occurred on March 29, 2024, around 10:30 pm at Chiranci Dorayi Quarters in Kano. Abba Garba Ibrahim, also known as ‘Dan ‘Kuda’, allegedly used a knife to stab Zaharadeen Iliyasu in the neck, resulting in his fatal injury.
Upon receiving the distress call regarding the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Gumel, swiftly ordered the blocking of all entry and exit points in the state to prevent the suspect from escaping. Police operatives, led by CSP Ya’u Sadiq Abdu from the Panshekara Division, were dispatched to the scene.
Zaharadeen Iliyasu was rushed to Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital, where he was pronounced dead by a medical doctor on duty. Meanwhile, Abba Garba Ibrahim was apprehended while attempting to flee to Niger Republic.
The statement indicated that the situation was brought under control, and the suspect was transferred to the command’s Criminal Investigation Department, Homicide Section, for further investigation. During preliminary interrogation, the suspect confessed to committing the crime while under the influence of intoxicating drugs.
The Commissioner of Police assured residents of Kano State of a thorough investigation and prosecution in the case. He urged the public to cooperate with the police and provide any necessary support.
Abba Ibrahim remains in custody as the investigation continues under the command’s Homicide Section.
