The Zamfara State Police Command has reported a tragic incident in Buluku, an outskirt of Gusau Local Government Area, where bandits attacked and killed a man identified as Ashiru Nagoma. Additionally, they abducted his wife and neighbor, according to ASP Yazid Abubakar, the spokesperson for the command, who confirmed the incident to PUNCH Online on Tuesday.
This occurrence follows a distressing post on X (formerly Twitter) by a Maiduguri-based security expert, Zagazola Makama, who raised an alarm about bandits infiltrating Gusau town. Makama reported that the bandits abducted several worshippers from a mosque during midnight prayers around 2 am.
However, ASP Abubakar clarified that the bandits did not attack the mosque but targeted Ashiru Nagoma, who resisted their assault. Tragically, the assailants killed Nagoma and abducted his wife and neighbor.
Abubakar assured that the police rescue team is actively involved and making every effort to apprehend the perpetrators and rescue the abducted victims. An investigation into the incident is underway.
This incident recalls a similar occurrence reported by The PUNCH in February, where bandits abducted numerous worshippers from a mosque in Tsafe town, the headquarters of Tsafe Local Government Area. According to a local resident, identified as Garba, the bandits invaded the mosque around 5 a.m. just before the morning prayer began. He recounted how the worshippers were compelled to follow the bandits under threats of violence.
