On Tuesday, Nigerian Army troops successfully thwarted an attempted kidnapping of Christians returning from a church program in Taraba State. Acting on actionable intelligence, the troops strategically positioned themselves, anticipating the terrorists’ attack on their targets.
A fierce gun battle ensued between the troops and the terrorists, resulting in the neutralization of at least four extremists. The Nigerian Army, in a statement posted on X, reported that the troops overpowered the terrorists and recovered sophisticated weapons in the process.
The statement highlighted the swift action of the 93 Battalion deployed in Wukari, which engaged the extremists along Tor – Tse and Takum Road. The troops’ decisive response led to the recovery of two AK-47 rifles, one pump action rifle, and two AK-47 magazines.
This operation underscores the Nigerian Army’s commitment to maintaining peace and security in Taraba State and across the nation. It also reflects the ongoing efforts of troops nationwide, as evidenced by the successful rescue of over 4,488 hostages between January and December 2023, as reported by The PUNCH.
