On Monday, tragedy struck as Deputy Commissioner of Police, Gbolahan Oyedemi, serving with the Force Criminal Investigation Department in Alagbon, Lagos State, reportedly took his own life at his private residence in Ogbomoso, Oyo State.
Oyedemi, known for his previous role as the Aide de Camp to the late former Governor of Oyo State, Adebayo Alao-Akala, during his 11-month tenure, was discovered deceased at his hometown. According to sources close to the family in Ibadan, the state capital, Oyedemi typically visited his hometown during Easter celebrations. This year, he instructed his aides to take leave and spend time with their families over the holiday weekend.
Tragically, Oyedemi’s body was found hanging in his residence on Monday, prompting shock and sadness among those who knew him. The circumstances surrounding his decision to take his own life remain unclear, leaving many questioning what could have led to such a tragic outcome.
Efforts to reach the state Police Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso, were unsuccessful, as his mobile number was unreachable at the time. However, the Police Public Relations Officer of FCID, Alagbon, DSP Eguaoje Funmilayo, confirmed Oyedemi’s death. Funmilayo emphasized that the exact circumstances surrounding his passing were still uncertain and would require further investigation.
As of now, no official statement from the Inspector General of Police has been released regarding Oyedemi’s death. The community mourns the loss of a dedicated law enforcement officer, while friends and colleagues grapple with the shock and sadness of his untimely demise.
