The House of Representatives has disclaimed recent statements attributed to Speaker Abbas Tajudeen regarding the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA).
Reports had circulated quoting the Speaker during the Society of Petroleum Engineers 2024 Oloibiri Lecture Series and Energy Forum in Abuja, where he allegedly suggested that the lack of investment in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector was a rejection of the PIA. However, the House spokesman, Akin Rotimi, clarified that these remarks were made by Cyril Hart, who represented the Speaker at the event.
Rotimi emphasized that Hart’s comments were his personal opinions and did not reflect the official stance of the Speaker or the House of Representatives as a whole.
