Controversial cross-dresser Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, faced conviction in the Federal High Court in Lagos on Friday for violating laws against the abuse of the Naira. Justice Abimbola Awogboro delivered the verdict following a thorough review of the case’s facts.
During his allocutus, Bobrisky expressed unawareness of the law pertaining to Naira abuse, emphasizing his role as a social media influencer with a substantial following of over five million. However, the judge reminded him that ignorance of the law does not excuse misconduct.
Bobrisky, who had earlier been arraigned on four counts of Naira abuse by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), pleaded guilty to the charges. He sought a second chance to utilize his platform for educating his followers about responsible financial behavior, expressing remorse for his actions.
As the legal proceedings unfolded, Bobrisky was detained in a lone cell, awaiting arraignment, highlighting the gravity of the charges against him.
