The Federal Government has announced public holidays for Tuesday and Wednesday, April 9th and 10th, 2024, to observe the Eid-el-Fitr celebration, marking the end of Ramadan. Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, conveyed this in a statement issued on Sunday by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Aishetu Ndayako. Tunji-Ojo extended congratulations to the Muslim Ummah for completing the fasting month successfully and encouraged them to embody the virtues of kindness, love, and peace exemplified by the Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon Him).
In light of the occasion, President Bola Tinubu arrived in Lagos on Sunday, accompanied by top government officials, including Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu. Tinubu’s spokesperson, Ajuri Ngelale, revealed that the President would observe the end of Ramadan with prayers for Nigeria and with family. While the exact return date of Tinubu was unspecified, it was noted that official duties would resume during and after the Eid-el-Fitr holidays.
Similarly, Vice-President Kashim Shettima arrived in Maiduguri on Sunday, ahead of the Eid-El-Fitr celebration. He was warmly received by Borno Deputy Governor, Alhaji Umar Kadafur, alongside members of the State Executive Council and party leaders. Enhanced security measures were also reported in Maiduguri and its environs in anticipation of the festivities.
The Eid-El-Fitr celebration, marking the conclusion of Ramadan fasting, is scheduled for either Tuesday or Wednesday, depending on the sighting of the new Islamic month of Shawwal.
