The Federal Government has announced an additional public holiday on Thursday, April 11, 2024, to commemorate Eid-El-Fitr. This decision was communicated through a statement signed by Dr. Aishetu Ndayako, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, and shared on the ministry’s official account on Tuesday.
The statement reads, “The Federal Government has approved Thursday, April 11, 2024, as an additional public holiday to celebrate this year’s Eid-El-Fitr. The Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, extends congratulations to the Muslim Ummah for the successful completion of a month of spiritual rejuvenation and reaffirms President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s unwavering commitment to ensuring a safe and prosperous Nigeria for all citizens.”
Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia announced on Monday that the crescent of Shawwal had not been sighted, signifying the continuation of fasting on Tuesday. Eid-El-Fitr festivities are now scheduled to take place on Wednesday, April 10, marking the beginning of the new Islamic month.
Earlier, the Federal Government had declared Tuesday and Wednesday, April 9 and 10, 2024, as public holidays in observance of the Eid-El-Fitr celebration.
