Members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) have extended their condolences to the family and associates of Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, the inaugural civilian governor of Abia State, following his reported passing in Abuja due to a brief illness.
The National Working Committee of the APC confirmed the demise of the former Minister of Science and Technology, acknowledging his significant contributions to the party. Deputy National Organising Secretary, Nze Chidi Duru, lauded Onu as a purposeful and committed individual, highlighting the loss his departure represents for the APC.
Similarly, Dr. Ijeoma Arodiogbu, the National Vice Chairman (South-East) of the party, expressed sorrow over the loss, describing Onu as one of the founding members of the APC and praising his dedication to the party’s ideals.
Onu’s residence in Abuja quickly became a gathering point for mourners as news of his passing spread. A graduate of the University of Lagos, Onu began his career as an educator before transitioning into politics. He served as the governor of Abia State from 1992, leaving a notable mark on the state’s governance.
Throughout his political journey, Onu remained steadfast in his commitment to the APC, leaving behind a legacy of service and dedication to his constituents and the party.
