Controversial crossdresser, Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, finds himself sharing a cell with male inmates at the Ikoyi Custodial Centre following his sentencing to six months in prison for naira abuse. The sentence, handed down by Justice Abimbola Awogboro of the Federal High Court in Lagos, serves as a deterrent to others engaging in similar acts of currency mutilation.
Despite his public persona, Bobrisky is treated no differently from other inmates at the facility. Upon admission, he underwent standard procedures, including examination, which revealed no alterations to his biological gender or genital organs. As such, he was housed among male inmates, given a bed space, and allocated personal belongings, adhering to facility protocols akin to a boarding house.
According to an anonymous official from the facility, Bobrisky has been cooperative and abides by the rules and routines observed by all inmates. He attends classes, meals, and other activities without any preferential treatment. Additionally, the official clarified that Bobrisky is not shielded from potential abuse and would face consequences if found violating prison regulations.
The official emphasized the custodial center’s stance against homosexuality, highlighting that any attempt to engage in such behavior would result in disciplinary action. Furthermore, single or isolation cells are utilized to prevent the spread of diseases rather than to provide special treatment.
When approached for comment, the spokesperson for the Lagos State Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Rotimi Oladokun, declined to provide further details on the matter.
