The Kano State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), State Working Committee, has taken action against ward party leaders who previously suspended the National Chairman of the Party, Umar Abdullahi Ganduje. However, their decision was quickly countered by the APC Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area.
In a swift response, the Chairman of the APC Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area, Inusa Dawanau, announced the dismissal of those responsible for suspending Ganduje. Dawanau informed reporters that the individuals behind the suspension of the national chairman were engaged in anti-party activities, and evidence of their meetings with opposition groups had been uncovered.
The state Working Committee endorsed the suspension of the ward’s APC leaders, who instigated the suspension of the National Chairman. They imposed a six-month suspension on these individuals and established a special investigations panel to probe various allegations against them.
The committee emphasized that Ganduje’s suspension was invalid, null, and void, and would not be recognized. Alhaji Abdullahi Abbas, the state’s APC chairman, affirmed that they have adopted the decisions made by the Local Government party leaders and are currently investigating the anti-party activities of the culprits.
Abbas stated, “We have evidence of meetings between State Government officials and those who suspended the National Chairman, and the State Working Committee has decided to suspend them for six months. They will remain suspended until the end of the period.”
It’s worth noting that the ward’s legal adviser, Halliru Gwanjo, explained during a press conference that they suspended Ganduje from the party due to allegations leveled against him by the Kano state Government.
In related news, the Kano State High Court has scheduled April 17, 2024, for the arraignment of Abdullahi Ganduje, his wife, son, and five others for alleged bribery. They face eight counts, including a $413,000 bribery allegation and misappropriation of funds amounting to N1.38 billion.
However, the Federal High Court in Kano has ruled that the Kano Public Compliant and Anti-Corruption Commission lacks jurisdiction to investigate Ganduje over an alleged $5m bribery video. Justice Abdullahi Liman stated that the offence falls under federal jurisdiction and could be prosecuted by the Attorney General of the Federation and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
