Tragic circumstances unfolded in Houston as Michael Chidozie, a 26-year-old Nigerian bodybuilder based in the US, passed away on April 8, 18 days after sustaining multiple gunshot wounds inflicted by his wife, Keaiirra Shavoiyae, during a heated argument on March 21. According to Daily Mail, despite battling for survival on life support, Chidozie succumbed to complications arising from a severe spinal injury.
Reports indicate that the altercation, witnessed by their young children, led to Chidozie being shot four times inside their Houston apartment. Following the incident, he was rushed to Ben Taub Hospital while his wife was found by authorities in a state of distress, clutching their two toddlers. Court documents, as per ABC13, reveal that Chidozie suffered gunshot wounds to his torso, arm, and chest.
Keaiirra, 28, was initially charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after the shooting, maintaining her assertion of acting in self-defense out of fear for her life when Chidozie pursued her into their bedroom. Despite Chidozie’s tragic demise, her charges have not been upgraded. Currently out on bail, Keaiirra is scheduled to appear in court on May 23.
Meanwhile, Chidozie’s grieving family is seeking to repatriate his remains to Nigeria for burial, launching a GoFundMe campaign to cover the $70,000 expenses.
