The abduction of Risikat Oladokun, a businesswoman in Ogun State, has left her husband, Mathew Oladokun, distressed and frustrated with the lack of progress in her rescue by the Nigeria Police. Despite paying a ransom of N5 million to the abductors, Risikat remains in captivity, and the abductors continue to demand more money.
According to Mathew Oladokun, the police seem to have given up on the search for his wife, and the family has been left in the dark about her current status. The abductors have refused to allow them to speak with her and are demanding additional ransom payments.
The harrowing experience began when gunmen attacked the Oladokun family as they were driving into their compound. The assailants took Risikat away, leaving Mathew and their children locked in the house. They seized their phones, cash, and ATM cards, withdrawing all the money from their bank accounts.
Despite initial demands for N15 million, the family negotiated and paid N5 million in ransom. However, the abductors have not released Risikat and continue to demand more money. Mathew expressed frustration with the police’s handling of the case, noting that little progress has been made toward his wife’s safe return.
He appealed to the state Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alamutu, to collaborate with other security agencies to expedite Risikat’s release. However, the Police Public Relations Officer of the command, Omolola Odutola, indicated that the case was not updated, promising to provide further information but failed to do so at the time of reporting.
The situation underscores the challenges faced by families of kidnapping victims in Nigeria and highlights the need for more effective measures to combat kidnapping and ensure the safety of citizens.
