On Wednesday, the Chief Magistrates Court in Ibadan, Oyo State, saw the arraignment of approximately 29 individuals identified as Yoruba Nation agitators. Their charges stemmed from their alleged involvement in the attempted invasion of the Governor’s Office and the State House of Assembly.
The incident occurred on April 13, 2024, when masked individuals suspected to be Yoruba Nation agitators attempted to hoist their flag at the state secretariat in Agodi, Ibadan. Their actions were swiftly countered by joint security personnel.
The agitators faced charges on seven counts, including treasonable felony, unlawful society, illegal possession of firearms, and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace. The Investigative Police Officer, Inspector Bakare Rasaq from the State Criminal Investigation Department in Iyaganku, Ibadan, highlighted that these charges were in violation of Section 516 of the Criminal Code, Cap 38, Vol. II, Laws of Oyo State of Nigeria, 2000.
Earlier, Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Hamzat Adebola, had announced the arrest of 20 suspects in connection with the incident during a press briefing on Monday.
