Sam Empowerment Foundation (SEF) organized a Sallah celebration at Junior Secondary School (GSS) Orozo, Abuja, where they served meals to more than 5,000 people in commemoration of this year’s Ramadan.
According to SEF’s Programme Director, Kiema Ogunlana, in addition to the Sallah party, the foundation provided daily meals for about 500 indigent individuals, particularly orphans and vulnerable children, across three communities in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) – Guzape, Karu, and Garki Village.
“Our Founder/President, Dr. (Mrs.) Aisha Achimugu (OFR), believed it was important for us to organize the feeding program to celebrate the season and show love and kindness to fellow Nigerians,” Mrs. Ogunlana noted.
She emphasized that the program aimed to alleviate hunger and suffering among vulnerable persons.
“We wanted to ensure that no child goes hungry after fasting,” she emphasized.
Furthermore, the Director disclosed that SEF’s vision includes hosting skill empowerment programs after the Sallah festivities.
“Sustainable skill training programs, such as the training for young women on hair ventilation, will commence on Monday. Beneficiaries will be provided with a market to sell their products. This initiative will significantly improve the financial conditions of participants,” she explained.
Mrs. Ogunlana called on the government to collaborate more with Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) to address the developmental needs of Nigerians under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu.
“We know the issues in the grassroots, and there should be more collaborations with CSOs,” she emphasized.
She also encouraged other CSOs to continue implementing impactful programs, regardless of scale.
The Chief Imam of Orozo, Khalid Abdullah, expressed gratitude for the gesture, stating, “We have never experienced anything similar to this in the past. SEF has added to our joy this year.”
Mrs. Balogun Ileogben, a non-Muslim participant, described the event as educational and fun-filled, emphasizing the importance of such outings for children during holidays.
Hajiya Balogun Rashidat, a teacher at JSS – Orozo, praised SEF’s efforts in the school, expressing gratitude for their support in setting up their ICT facility and providing scholarships to indigent students. She concluded, “Feeding people is a good idea and brings Muslims together. We pray that the Almighty God will replenish her pocket, and that the foundation will continue to grow.”
