Senator Jimoh Ibrahim, representing Ondo South Senatorial District, along with four other aspirants, has lodged an appeal contesting Governor Aiyedatiwa’s victory in the recent All Progressives Congress (APC) primary elections.
The appeal, addressed to the APC Primary Election Committee chaired by former Bauchi State Governor, Mr. Mohammed Abubakar, calls for the nullification of the governorship primary and the organization of a fresh one.
Senator Ibrahim, joined by Folakemi Omogoroye, Olugbenga Edema, Jimi Odimayo, and Wale Akinterinwa, criticized the election process as deficient, undermining democracy, and disregarding established democratic principles.
Senator Ibrahim presented four primary reasons to support the appeal for the election’s annulment. These include alleged non-compliance with party rules, failure to provide essential electoral materials, failure to accredit agents, and instances of gross misconduct.
He stated, “This is an appeal to your committee to cancel the Primary election held in Ondo state on 20th April 2024 on the ground that there was no election in the 203 wards, and this is evidenced from the many petitions before your committee as captured on the grounds below.”
Among the issues raised, he highlighted the alleged lack of provision of necessary electoral materials, non-accreditation of agents, and the irregular presence of electoral officials at his residence during the election day.
Omogoroye supported the appeal for the election’s cancellation, urging the appeal committee to oversee a new election conducted in accordance with established guidelines to ensure fairness and transparency for all candidates.
The appellants emphasized the need for a level playing field and adherence to democratic principles in the electoral process, condemning any actions perceived as undermining the integrity of the party’s primary elections.
