The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced an extension for the registration of Direct Entry candidates. In a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday, the board reassured Direct Entry (DE) candidates of the opportunity for an extended registration period.
While the board did not specify a new deadline for the registration, it assured candidates that the information regarding the new deadline would be communicated soon. The decision to extend the registration period stemmed from the acknowledgment that JAMB offices were closed for DE registration throughout the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) exercise. This extension aims to provide candidates with the chance to make up for the lost days.
Direct Entry registration caters to candidates with A-level results, who seek admission to universities at the second-year level. In 2023, JAMB introduced a new verification system for A-level results following the discovery of fraudulent practices where registrants attempted to bypass the A-level qualifications required for Direct Entry candidates. This discovery prompted JAMB to implement stringent measures to authenticate A-level results, consequently slowing down the registration process.
Is-haq Oloyede, the Registrar of JAMB, outlined 13 acceptable qualifications for Direct Entry registration. These qualifications include a university diploma, Ordinary National Diploma, National Diploma, Nigeria Certificate in Education, Higher National Diploma, and a university degree, among others.
