The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has called for the removal of Justice Binta Nyako from the case of its leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, alleging that she has been compromised by the Federal Government. In a statement issued by IPOB spokesman, Emma Powerful, on Saturday, the group claimed that Nyako would not deliver fair judgment in the matter due to external pressures.
According to Powerful, Nyako is under undue influence from the Federal Government to unjustly prosecute Kanu in order to protect her family members from legal action by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). IPOB insists that Nyako must recuse herself from Kanu’s case to ensure justice prevails.
The statement emphasized that Kanu’s only “offense” is his advocacy for Biafra’s self-determination movement and that he has not violated any laws. IPOB vehemently opposes any attempt to sacrifice Kanu to shield corrupt individuals, stressing that he is a symbol of hope for the South Eastern region.
Powerful called on international human rights organizations and Western countries to intervene and ensure fairness in Nigeria’s judicial system. He urged Justice Nyako to step down from Kanu’s case to avoid further complications and potential unrest in the country.
This demand follows a recent incident where Nyako threatened to adjourn sine die (indefinitely) the trial of Nnamdi Kanu due to alleged disrespect for his right to a fair trial. IPOB remains steadfast in its quest for justice and calls for impartiality in Kanu’s legal proceedings.
