A segment of the New Nigeria Peoples Party has lodged a complaint with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) against the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, and 13 others, alleging the misappropriation of over N2 billion. The faction, represented by its National Secretary, Oginni Olaposi, asserted in a petition addressed to the EFCC chairman that funds amounting to approximately N2.5 billion generated from nomination form sales, membership fees, and contributions were unaccounted for by the expelled party leadership. Consequently, Olaposi highlighted that this purported mismanagement resulted in the non-payment of allowances to party agents involved in the 2023 general elections nationwide. The petition urged the EFCC to scrutinize the party’s accounts from March 2022 onwards.
In response, Ladipo Johnson, spokesperson for the Kwankwaso Presidential Campaign Council, dismissed the existence of any faction within the party and refuted the credibility of the complainants, labeling them as outsiders lacking authority to question financial matters. Johnson dismissed the petition as baseless and emphasized the party’s resilience against such accusations, asserting that those behind the petition were no longer affiliated with the party. He further dismissed their allegations as unfounded distractions and expressed confidence in the party’s ability to withstand such challenges, while encouraging the disgruntled faction to address their own issues. Johnson emphasized that the party remains undeterred by attempts to besmirch its reputation and affirmed its commitment to its objectives despite external interference.
