The Nigeria Police Force has announced significant progress in their efforts to tackle crime and enhance security, particularly in Delta State and surrounding areas, following a tragic incident in Ohoro Forest, Ughelli. Thirteen police rifles were lost during an ambush where police operatives were gruesomely murdered.
In a press release shared on Tuesday by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, it was revealed that the Force Intelligence Department Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT) conducted a successful operation leading to the recovery of ten stolen arms. This operation involved engaging the suspects in a gun battle.
Adejobi emphasized, “Following the recent tragic events in Ohoro Forest, Ughelli Delta State, where some police operatives were ambushed and gruesomely murdered leading to the loss of thirteen (13) police rifles to the criminal suspects, the FID-IRT have successfully recovered ten (10) of these arms.”
During the operation, several suspects were neutralized, and the police managed to reclaim ten stolen weapons while also confiscating additional arms used by the assailants.
Additionally, the Nigeria Police addressed the kidnapping crisis along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway with the arrest of six members of a notorious kidnapping gang operating in the area.
Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, reiterated the Force’s dedication to minimizing crime through efficient intelligence gathering and sharing for strategic operational deployments. “The IGP has reassured the public that the Police will continue to employ all necessary measures to combat criminal activities across the nation as the safety and security of Nigerian citizens remain the top priority,” stated Adejobi.
The IGP emphasized his leadership’s resolve to foster a safe and secure environment for all citizens, expressing appreciation for their support and cooperation in achieving this goal.
