The Nigerian Army has apprehended Corporal Francis Bako on suspicion of stealing ammunition in Borno State. The arrest was carried out by troops of Operation Hadin Kai in Maiduguri, in collaboration with the Civilian Joint Task Force in the state.
Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency expert and security analyst in the Lake Chad region, shared this information on Tuesday via his X handle. According to Makama, the suspect was apprehended at the Kano Motor Park in Maiduguri following a tip-off.
In his post, Makama stated, “The Nigerian Army troops of Operation Hadin Kai in Maiduguri, in collaboration with the Civilian Joint Task Force, Borno State, have arrested a soldier, Corporal Francis Bako, for allegedly stealing ammunition.”
Reports indicate that Bako, who hails from Mallam Fatori, was intercepted while en route to Kaduna and was found in possession of 602 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition. The soldier is currently in military custody pending further action.
Accompanying Makama’s post were videos and images showing the soldier and the seized ammunition on display. However, as of press time, neither the troop operating in Northeast Nigeria nor the Nigerian Army at large had issued official statements regarding the matter.
