President Bola Ahmed Tinubu marked his first year in office with a notable speech, outlining forthcoming plans to present a supplementary budget to the National Assembly. In an address delivered before a joint sitting of the Assembly, Tinubu applauded the legislature’s cooperation, particularly highlighting the swift passage of the 2024 Budget.
Acknowledging the significance of collaboration between the executive and legislative branches, Tinubu emphasized its paramount importance for the nation’s progress. He underscored that the development of Nigeria relies on this partnership, asserting that external support, even from foreigners, cannot substitute for domestic cooperation.
A notable moment during the speech was Tinubu’s call for a return to Nigeria’s original post-independence national anthem, “Nigeria we hail thee, our dear native land.” The anthem echoed through the Assembly as Tinubu entered and again at the conclusion of the proceedings, symbolizing unity amidst diversity.
Reflecting on his political journey, Tinubu recounted his start as a senator in the same esteemed chamber in 1992, acknowledging its pivotal role in shaping his path to the presidency.
