The Military High Command has issued a stern vow to apply relentless military force against the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) following the tragic killing of five soldiers at a checkpoint in Aba, Abia State, on Wednesday.
In a statement released on Friday in Abuja, Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj.-Gen. Edward Buba, affirmed the military’s unwavering commitment to delivering a decisive response to the heinous act, ensuring the complete defeat of the perpetrators.
Maj.-Gen. Buba disclosed that troops of Operation UDO KA stationed at the Obikabia Junction Checkpoint in Obingwa Local Government Area, adjacent to Aba metropolis, were ambushed and fatally attacked by IPOB/ESN terrorists. The assailants, deploying three tinted Prado Toyota SUVs and reinforcements from nearby residential areas, launched a surprise assault on the checkpoint, resulting in the tragic loss of five military personnel.
Expressing profound condolences, Maj.-Gen. Buba emphasized the significant sacrifices made by soldiers in the line of duty, highlighting the grave consequences of such attacks on national security.
Furthermore, Maj.-Gen. Buba underscored the vital role of public support in combating terrorism, emphasizing the need for collective action in thwarting such attacks. He warned that IPOB’s exploitation of local support to target troops underscores the gravity of the situation, necessitating a robust military response.
In response to this egregious act, Maj.-Gen. Buba affirmed the military’s determination to retaliate decisively, asserting that overwhelming military pressure would be brought to bear on IPOB to ensure their comprehensive defeat.
