The National Orientation Agency has announced its intention to seek approval for a new national prayer, while affirming that the national pledge will continue to be valid and in use. Lanre Issa-Onilu, the Director General of the agency, made this declaration during the unveiling of the standardized version of the reintroduced national anthem in Abuja on Wednesday.
Issa-Onilu clarified that the NOA will adhere to official procedures to secure approval for the adoption of a new national prayer. He emphasized that the national pledge remains operational and emphasized the importance of the NOA’s values orientation programs, which aim to define the shared identity of Nigerian citizens.
In the standardized version of the reintroduced national anthem, only one word was modified. The word “and” in the fifth line of the first stanza was replaced with “are,” resulting in the official line reading, “Nigerians all, are proud to serve.”
