Protesters swarmed Kaduna Government House on Thursday, demanding Governor Uba Sani take action against his predecessor, Nasir El-Rufai, following an indictment alleging misappropriation of N423 billion. Organized under the Kaduna Citizens Watch for Good Governance, the demonstrators marched from UTC bust stop along Sokoto Road to the main entrance of Sir Kashim Ibrahim Government House.
Carrying placards with messages like “Prosecute indicted persons,” “Stop servicing unlawful loans,” and “Hold leaders accountable,” they voiced concerns over financial mismanagement during El-Rufai’s tenure. The Kaduna State House of Assembly’s ad hoc committee recently submitted a damning report alleging misuse of funds and non-compliance in loan procurement between 2015 and 2023.
Led by Comrade Victor Duniya, the protesters urged Governor Sani to act on the committee’s recommendations, including forwarding the findings to the EFCC and other authorities for prosecution. They commended the assembly for their diligent probe and criticized any attempts to thwart justice.
Deputy Governor Hajiya Hadiza Balarabe and other senior officials received their petition, assuring them that their grievances would be relayed to Governor Sani. The demonstration highlighted ongoing tensions over financial transparency and accountability in Kaduna State’s governance.
