The Senate has asserted its readiness to approve the purchase of a presidential plane if deemed necessary, despite preemptive attempts to influence its decision through anticipated blackmail. Senate President GodsWill Akpabio clarified during Thursday’s plenary that there had been no formal request for such approval at present.
“We care about the president and the Nigerian people. We will approve things that benefit our citizens and improve their living standards,” Akpabio emphasized. He further stated that if the president’s vehicle or plane required repairs, the Senate would consider the matter responsibly.
Akpabio addressed purported misinformation attributed to him, dismissing it as anticipated blackmail aimed at influencing future decisions. He stressed the Senate’s commitment to governance issues that benefit the country, citing incidents involving defective aircraft globally as cautionary examples.
Despite allegations of propaganda from certain quarters, the Senate remains focused on its mandate and will address issues based on their merits and national interest.
