The Edo State Police Command has reported the arrest of the alleged perpetrator in the case of Glory Adekolure, a University of Benin graduate. Adekolure, who was on campus to complete her final clearance on June 13, 2024, tragically met her demise. Her remains were discovered beneath a tree in the Iyowa Community of Benin City, near her residence.
The suspect was apprehended in Asaba, Delta State, fifteen days after Adekolure’s death. Edo State Commissioner of Police, Funsho Adegboye, disclosed in an interview with Channels Television on Friday that the suspect confessed not only to the murder of Adekolure but also to the killings of at least eight other young women.
“I am pleased to inform the people of Edo State and Nigeria at large that we have arrested the perpetrator of the heinous crime against Glory Adekolure, a 22-year-old final year Chemistry student of the University of Benin. He was captured in Asaba, Delta State. Following his escape post the incident, he was aware of our pursuit. Thanks to the diligent efforts of our anti-kidnapping and cybercrime unit, he was apprehended and admitted to the murder of not only Glory Adekolure but also eight other similar cases,” Adegboye stated.
The commissioner mentioned that the suspect has not yet been publicly presented as investigations into the matter continue.
