Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has initiated the formation of a 20-member transition committee aimed at ensuring a seamless handover of governance responsibilities as his administration nears its conclusion in four months. The committee, chaired by former State Commissioner for Finance Joseph Eboigbe, was officially inaugurated by the governor at the EXCO Chambers in Benin City, with some members joining virtually.
During the inauguration, Governor Obaseki emphasized the importance of documenting his administration’s achievements over the past eight years. He highlighted the committee’s mandate to gather and organize all relevant documents, including policies, contracts, executive decisions, presentations, and policy papers into a structured digital data room. This repository, according to the governor, will serve as institutional memory for future administrations, aiding in policy development and ensuring continuity.
The governor underscored the committee’s task of compiling comprehensive reports on every sector of governance, outlining completed and ongoing initiatives along with recommendations for the incoming administration. Stressing the importance of timely completion, Governor Obaseki set a deadline of October 30, 2024, for the committee to finalize its work, ahead of the transition on November 11, 2024.
In response, Committee Chairman Joseph Eboigbe expressed commitment to fulfilling the governor’s expectations, assuring that the committee would diligently execute its responsibilities and deliver the required reports within the stipulated timeframe.
Governor Obaseki’s proactive approach in establishing this transition committee reflects his administration’s dedication to ensuring a smooth and informed transfer of power, setting a precedent for effective governance continuity in Edo State.
