The Anambra State Police Command has announced significant strides in crime prevention efforts, with the arrest of 200 suspects and the recovery of a cache of weaponry and stolen goods. Addressing reporters at the command’s headquarters in Awka, Commissioner of Police CP Nnaghe Obono Itam disclosed that within a span of 60 days, the force had made substantial seizures and apprehensions through enhanced operational strategies.
“Upon assuming office, my team and I undertook a thorough assessment of our policing capabilities and identified key threats to critical assets in the state,” CP Itam stated during the press briefing on Friday. “Through intensive intelligence gathering and collaboration with sister security agencies, vigilante groups, and other stakeholders, we have achieved commendable results.”
He further detailed the accomplishments: “We have arrested over 200 suspects involved in various criminal activities, secured five convictions with ongoing trials, rescued four kidnapped victims unharmed, and recovered a variety of firearms including AK-47 rifles, pump action guns, and locally made pistols. Additionally, we have seized over 1,644 rounds of ammunition, recovered 27 stolen vehicles, various motorcycles, cash, and other exhibits crucial to ongoing investigations.”
The Commissioner emphasized that these achievements reflect the command’s commitment to enhancing operational efficiency and proficiency in crime prevention strategies.
