The Commissioner of Police for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Bennett Igweh, has issued a plea to residents and indigenes of Abuja to refrain from participating in an upcoming nationwide protest scheduled for August 1. Speaking to journalists in Abuja on Monday, Igweh emphasized the efforts made by the police to maintain security in the FCT and expressed concerns that the protest could jeopardize these efforts.
In his statement, Igweh likened residents to lions who do not destroy their dens, urging them not to engage in activities that could undermine their own safety and security. He highlighted the sacrifices made by law enforcement personnel in combating crime in and around Abuja, including recent losses of officers in the line of duty.
The Commissioner acknowledged government efforts in infrastructure development, particularly in improving road networks across the FCT. He urged residents to appreciate these efforts and cautioned against allowing external troublemakers to exploit any unrest that could arise from the protest.
Igweh concluded by urging residents to act maturely and responsibly, emphasizing that collective efforts are needed to maintain the safety and security of the nation’s capital. He urged residents to refrain from joining the protest and instead continue supporting efforts to keep the FCT safe.
