The All Progressives Congress (APC) has refuted suggestions that the Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, wields influence over decisions made by the Rivers State chapter of the party. Speaking at the national secretariat in Abuja, Chief Tony Okocha, Chairman of the Rivers APC caretaker committee, emphasized that Wike, a prominent figure in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is neither a member of APC nor participates in their political gatherings.
“We find it amusing when such claims are made. Wike is firmly aligned with the PDP, and despite efforts to engage him, he remains steadfast in his party allegiance,” Okocha stated. “He does not attend our meetings or contribute to our operations. His perceived influence stems solely from his role as a minister in the APC-led government.”
Okocha further clarified the party’s stance on former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, noting that he is no longer regarded as a member following his unsuccessful bid in the 2022 presidential primary against President Bola Tinubu.
In a related development, the Senate has urged Wike to allocate reconstructed market shops to their original owners.
