A tragic incident occurred at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU) in Bauchi as Naja’atu Salisu, a 300-level Computer Science student, passed away after collapsing in the bathroom.
The incident took place on Friday morning when Naja’atu was preparing for her morning class. According to her roommate, who preferred to remain anonymous, Naja’atu had laid out her clothes and study materials before heading into the bathroom.
Zailani Bappa, the university’s Director of Information and Public Relations, confirmed that Naja’atu’s sister discovered her unconscious in the bathroom after noticing her prolonged absence. Despite immediate efforts to revive her at the university clinic, medical personnel were unable to find a vein for transfusion due to the severity of her condition. She was then rushed to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, where doctors pronounced her dead.
Naja’atu’s parents, who reside in Abuja, have accepted the unfortunate news and requested that her funeral be conducted according to Islamic rites. The burial has since taken place following these rites.
The leadership of the Students Union Government (SUG) at ATBU Bauchi, along with various student unions, clubs, and society groups, have expressed their condolences to Naja’atu’s family and the university community, describing her sudden death as a significant loss.
