The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, emphasized on Monday that the Nigerian military will not tolerate any calls for a change of government. His statement followed the National Security Council meeting, presided over by President Bola Tinubu, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
General Musa issued a stern warning to those advocating for a coup, asserting that the military is committed to upholding democracy in Nigeria. “Nigeria is a sovereign nation, a democratic nation. All security agencies are here to defend democracy and ensure that it continues to thrive. We will not accept anyone pushing for any change of government. Democracy is what we stand for and will continue to defend,” he stated.
He further highlighted that the military would intervene if necessary to protect national sovereignty, especially against actions that threaten the democratic order. Referring to recent incidents where individuals waved Russian flags during protests, Musa noted, “We will not accept anyone pushing for a regime change, especially those who cross the red line of our sovereignty. Those involved will be prosecuted.”
General Musa’s remarks reinforce the military’s dedication to safeguarding Nigeria’s democratic processes and ensuring stability in the face of any threats.
