Reactions have surged online following the release of controversial cross-dresser Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, from the Kirikiri Correctional Centre in Lagos State. The social media celebrity was released on Monday morning after serving a six-month imprisonment.
A video shared on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) showed Bobrisky greeting fans who gathered to welcome him back. Justice Awogboro, who sentenced Bobrisky without an option for a fine, stated that the punishment was meant to serve as a lesson for those who abuse the Naira.
Following his release, numerous netizens took to X.com to share their reactions:
- @toolzmoney questioned, “Bobrisky after finally regaining his freedom. Una sure say this guy go prison??”
- @OloriSupergal exclaimed, “Bobrisky aka Mummy of Laygurrrrrrsssss is back!!!!”
- @iamaleshinloye1 expressed, “Congratulations to all Nigerians.”
- @peace_igho humorously remarked, “See as Bobrisky dey glow. Abi make I go prison??”
- @ehime24 commented, “Deep in our hearts, we all know Bobrisky did not go to prison……Omo get money OOO, make prison no be like a vacation.”
- @ChiomaChuka criticized the incarceration, writing, “A reminder that Bobrisky’s incarceration was unjust, heavy-handed, and can be described as targeted. There are several videos of politicians, their families, & politically exposed persons spraying naira; NONE of them have been arrested or jailed. A bad thing is a bad thing.”
- @_theladymo noted, “Bobrisky looks really fresh out of prison, be like say all of us go enter prison o.”
After his release, Bobrisky spoke to journalists, advising Nigerians to obey the country’s laws and respect the Naira. He warned against abusing the currency to avoid imprisonment, emphasizing the importance of following regulations.
Bobrisky stated, “You have to follow the rules and abide by the laws. Don’t spray money, or you will become a landlord in Kirikiri. It is not just about killing or any criminal activity that can bring you to prison. Something light as spraying of naira can take you there.”
He added, “I’m only focusing my good energy right now on people who were there for me, like my friends. You see, any other person, I’m not interested. So, I don’t want to talk about them. I’m really grateful to my friends and loved ones.”
