President Bola Tinubu has officially sworn in Mrs. Didi Walson-Jack as the new Head of the Civil Service of the Federation. The ceremony took place at 1:00 pm on Monday at the Council Chamber of the Aso Rock Villa in Abuja, just before the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting.
Walson-Jack succeeds Dr. Folashade Yemi-Esan, who retired on August 12, 2024, just before reaching the retirement age of 60. The appointment, which was approved by the President on July 17, follows nearly a month of anticipation.
During the swearing-in, President Tinubu expressed his confidence in Walson-Jack, stating, “You’re stepping into very big shoes, and we pray that God continues to guide you, provide you with wisdom, and enhance your integrity to serve this country and the civil service in the most successful way.”
Tinubu also acknowledged the contributions of the outgoing Head of Service, Dr. Yemi-Esan, praising her for her exceptional tenure, commitment, and loyalty.
Born in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, on August 27, 1966, Walson-Jack holds a Bachelor’s degree in Law from the University of Lagos and was called to the bar in 1987. Her career includes roles as Solicitor-General of Bayelsa State, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Justice, and Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Education, where she served since January 2024.
Following the swearing-in, President Tinubu led the FEC meeting, which had been postponed a week earlier to accommodate discussions with security chiefs regarding nationwide protests. The council is expected to review several memos, including those related to road projects in Kano, Benue, and Abia States.
