An Ekiti State Chief Magistrate Court has ordered the remand of a 12-year-old boy in a juvenile home for allegedly stabbing two brothers. The incident occurred on August 10 in the Omi Olori area of Ado Ekiti.
During the hearing on Wednesday, Chief Magistrate Abayomi Adeosun ruled that since the defendant is a juvenile, he will be tried in a juvenile court. The boy is to be held at a juvenile home until the case’s next mention, scheduled for August 16.
Inspector Akinwale Oriyomi, the police prosecutor, informed the court that the minor assaulted two siblings, Toheeb Adeitan and Tajudeen Adeitan, by beating and stabbing them on the hand and shoulder. Additionally, the defendant allegedly damaged a Vivo handset valued at N19,000, belonging to Basiri Adeitan, and behaved in a way likely to cause a breach of the peace.
The charges against the minor are based on Sections 186, 421, and 181(d) of the Laws of Ekiti State, 2021. Inspector Oriyomi requested a short adjournment to review the case file and prepare his witnesses.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges. His counsel, Mr. Gboyega Abiola, requested bail for his client, assuring the court that the boy would not flee if released.
